Today I got new running shoes.
I’d been putting it off because my old shoes were comfortable. Maybe a bit battered, but still functional. And it seemed an unjustified extravagance to get yet another pair of running shoes! So I kept putting it off.
But over time those old shoes had broken down, and weren’t giving the support and cushioning I needed. This left my feet vulnerable and a hard run led to soreness that stopped me running for a while.
So I went to a specialist who helped me choose some new shoes that are right for me. And then I laced them up and headed out.
Changing shoes is far easier than changing career path. But the same principle is true – sometimes comfortable isn’t what you need in a career either.
My current job is comfortable, but it’s a comfortable that doesn’t work for me any more. And I’m sore and out of shape as a result.
So I’m glad that I’m working on finding a job that fits me better. And yes, I’ve been getting some expert support along that path. I hope I’ll soon be off and running.
What old shoes are you still wearing?
