What do you like to do?

In Victoria Goddard’s The Hands of the Emperor, a character called Gaudy is reflecting on some career questions that I find very wise:

“You said to go through all the things I liked to do, look hard at what I do with my free time, what makes me feel challenged and excited and creative, and how I want to participate in my community…”

It was reflecting on questions like these that drew me into my current journey as a coach and personal trainer. I noticed that I was spending a huge amount of time working out while listening to podcasts about fitness and wellbeing. I seemed to have a bottomless appetite for learning more about what makes human beings thrive and working out how to implement that in my own life.

I already knew that I enjoyed helping others find the right way to achieve their goals by asking the right questions and providing useful resources they could draw on. And I knew that I wanted to do bring that into my local community, not working with people far away but the people who were around me day to day.

And from those insights came the idea of combining coaching and personal training which I continue to explore today. It’s still relatively early in that journey, and I’m sure there will be bumps on the road, but it feels very right for me just now.

And as Gaudy goes on to say: “I don’t know what the world needs- but I think I have- I think I can- I know I have something to share! I don’t know what it is but I’m sure…”

So I pass those questions to you:

What do you like to do? What do you do with your free time? What makes you feel challenged and excited and creative? How do you want to participate in your community?
