Feeling lighter

Yesterday I went into my old office to hand in my laptop, phone and security pass.

It felt very strange to be there again, like being in a dream or another world. All familiar, and yet somehow not quite real.

There were some moments of sadness, of regret for all the dreams I’d had for that job which hadn’t worked out.

But the prevailing emotion was relief that I’d finally made the change that I’d been needing to make for many years. And not just started that change, but already made real progress launching my new journey into combining coaching and personal training.

I took a bit of time to be grateful for all the things I’d gained from my time in that job – the positive relationships, the unique opportunities, and the confidence that comes from doing a job well for a long period of time. The opportunity to train to be a coach and a change manager. The opportunity to hone those skills through working with real people to help them make personal and professional changes that stick.

I remembered a Mel Robbins quote I’d seen recently, that “You’re not starting from scratch, you’re starting from experience”. Even if I hadn’t achieved everything I’d wanted, and had a lot of frustrations along the way, that time hadn’t been wasted and I took the bits I needed with me.

And then I walked out with a light backpack and a light heart, and found a quiet place to sit in the sun and prepare a workout for my next PT client.
